I wanted to add this information for those of you booking trips that are not local to our area. Weather forecast on the TV for our local area are not always a good way to base whether to cancel your trip or not. The TV forecast is set up for the Wilmington area, not always being the best report for Oak Island. Also, a lot of times the report can change by the morning of your trip. This is why Captain's make weather calls on fishing trips.
For Example:
I had a trip booked for today and my charter called yesterday to cancel because the sea's looked rough to them. This morning the seas are calm, winds are 5 to 8 mph out of the west and sky's are sunny. A very fishable day! This is why cancellation of a trip, due to weather is called by the Captain, 1 to 24hrs. in advance.

Deposits for fishing trips are made to reserve a specific day for your party to fish, which takes that day off of the books for anyone else to book. The reason deposits are not returned when you cancel, are that the Captain makes preparations for the trip (bait, ice, gear & boat) and holds that day for you.
Please keep these thing in mind when booking your trip.
